Some people are 'born with a silver spoon in their mouth'.
...I was born with a keyboard, RISC manual, and soldering iron.
I learned DOS when computer mice weren't common and tractor-feed ribbon printers were. I wrote my first Windows application at age 14; Closely avoided expulsion from 9th grade for "hacking" after discovering a security vulnerability and reporting it....And then again in 10th grade. Currently building a DLS 3D Printer out of printer parts.
Born in the city but moved at age 7 to "the end of the line" (to quote my late grandmother) in Far North Queensland, I felt like a fish out of water for a very long time. No one in my town shared the same passion, or understood how powerful or profitable software development could be - the very few developers I did meet weren't passionate about their craft, and seemed to uphold stereotypical 'basement dwelling coder' social skills. Most disappointingly of all, coffee wasn't available after 4pm, and good coffee was only available at one shop. After being encouraged to relocate to a more urban environment, I found my true home in Melbourne Victoria, where fantastic coffee flows 'round the clock, opportunities to satisfy my inner geek are limitless, and there's so much data available to me that I'm overwhelmed with the possibilities.
